Brian and Steven's Metroid Prime 100% Checklist

When I was in grad school, I fell in love with the game Metroid Prime. My apartmentmate, Steven Spallone, and I made this checklist for all of the power-ups and scans in the game. The purpose of this checklist is to aid you in getting the best possible ending and in unlocking all four image galleries. The endings are based on percentage complete; to get the best one, you need your save game to show 100% before fighting the end boss. Basically, this means finding every item, including all 49 missile expansions. This can be tedious, especially if you're convinced that a certain area doesn't have a missile when it really does.

The four image galleries are unlocked by accomplishing certain goals:
1: Scan 50% of the log book entries.
2: Scan all log book entries.
3: Win the game on Hard Mode.
4: Get all items.
Of these, (2) and (4) can be very obnoxious and time-consuming without outside help (although, if you really don't want to cheat, you should know that something in gallery (3) will help you unlock gallery (4)...).

Zones: TO = Tallon Overworld, CR = Chozo Ruins, M = Magmoor, PD = Phendrana Drifts, PM = Phazon Mines, IC = Impact Crater.

Part One — Items

Missile Expansions

This is the big kahuna. Print it out and start checking off which ones you've gotten. My roommate Steven and I had great fun coming up with the nicknames for these; please excuse the occasional bad pun.

Unique Items

The only one of these you're at all likely to miss is the Ice Spreader. If you've played Super Metroid (and figured everything out in that game), it'll be obvious what to do. Otherwise, you might need to look in the table below to figure out what room it's in.

Part Two — Log Book Scans

(*) Denotes log book entries that must be scanned before you do certain things in the game. If you've finished everything and forgotten one of these, you'll have to start all over. It's worth it! Image gallery (2) is the best of the four!

Research

Look out for the starred items here. If you blow up a Missile Door Lock, get a map from a Map Station, or blast a Stalactite, then you can't scan it anymore.

Pirate Data

It's easy to get most of these, because 18 of the 25 Pirate Data scans are in three rooms: Research Lab Aether (RLA), Research Lab Hydra (RLH), and Elite Control (EC). The other seven take some looking, and beware of the Pirate Data (Fall of Zebes) which is on the Frigate Orpheon! You need to scan this one before you fight the Parasite Queen in the intro.

Creatures

The tricky thing here is remembering to scan all the bosses that you only have one chance to fight. In some boss fights, there is more than one "creature" to scan! Note, in particular, that the "war wasps" in the fights with the Hive Mecha and Incinerator Drone are NOT normal wasps, and that you need to scan BOTH Flaaghra and his tentacles. This can be particularly distracting if you don't have many missile expansions, or if you're unfamiliar with the boss. If you're having trouble finding one of the creatures, I've included hints about the area (and sometimes the room) to look in; this is intended only as a guide, not an encyclopedic list of all places to find a given creature. Finally, a few non-boss creatures also need to be scanned before proceeding; generally, these are present the first time you go to a certain room, but then they disappear once you accomplish some goal (like getting an item or killing a boss).
